August 12, 2004:
6:30 - 8:30 PM • Maine Veterans Home

Attendees:
Martha Davoli, Donald Littlefield, Brian Hazelwood, Cathy O’Bar, Sue Delisle, Heidi Leinonen, Cathy Fitzgerald, Beth Darling, Krista Cushing, Paula Atkinson, Greg Berry

Pack 47 T-Shirts:
The Pack has only a few t-shirts left, in limited sizes.
Heidi will order more, including a greater number of adult sizes.
We will sell them for $10 each at Pack meetings and other Pack events.

August 14 Kite Flying:
The Pack supplied “frustration-less” kite kits for the boys to decorate. The boys made and flew their kites at our event at Pine Point, with a family picnic after. Some of the kites flew very high indeed!

Scarborough SummerFest 2004:
Pack 47 offered four games at a new location near the ball field.
Ken Acker lent his helium tank so we could give away BSA balloons.
Families volunteered, with boys running games and adults taking money for tickets and doling out prizes.

All Out For Scouting:
Pack 39 will join Pack 47 at Black Point Congregational Church on September 14, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Parents and boys are encouraged to be present to show what Scouting and Pack 47 are all about!
Dens should bring past projects and crafts to exhibit.
New scouts who join will be invited to an ice cream social at Heidi’s home (not to be confused with Heidi’s House!) on September 19 at 3:00 PM. They will bring their parents and learn more about the Pack.
A scout and adult from each Den should plan to attend, especially if their Den has new members.

September 8 Pack Meeting:
Takes place September 7, Black Point Congregational Church. Award info should already be to Jim Hall

Resources For Den Leaders:
We’ll pass around a sheet at parent meetings for den leaders to jot down great projects or activities their dens have done. "Go See Its" will be helpful as well.
Discussed ways (such as a mentoring program) to initiate new leaders by having seasoned leaders share information and experience.

Baloo/Webelo Training:
Takes place at Latter Day Saints Church on River Road in Windham on October 16.

Possible Blood Drive:
Cathy Fitzgerald shared information from Barbara Snowden, MMC Blood Donor Program (we assume).
Pack 47 would host the blood drive, with the boys staffing the canteen. We would need 800 square feet of space.
We decided to invite a Blood Center representative to present this opportunity at the September parent meeting.
Paula Atkinson will check to see if we could use the space at Saint Nicholas should we decide to pursue this community service activity.
If we participate, we may hold the drive in January, when there is less going on.
We would like there to be an opportunity for the boys to earn a badge or other recognition by doing this service.

Tree Planting:
Cathy Fitzgerald told us about another service opportunity proposed by PTC.
The scouts may be able to earn an award by planting tree seedlings at a site in Scarborough.
More background information is needed before a decision can be made about this.

Contribution To Black Point Congregational Church:
Heidi Leinonen is waiting to hear from Ben Russell, our representative from the Church, as to when the Pack might make its planned donation.
For next year, we’ll consider making a donation in the Church’s name to a local organization such as Project Grace.

Popcorn Fundraising:
Kernel Don Littlefield is ready to guide us in this fundraiser.
We discussed the logistics of selling by "Show & Deliver" instead of "Show & Sell." The boys would go together to knock on doors, take orders, then get the desired product from a grown-up waiting in a car in front of the house. The buyer would pay for their popcorn and receive it at the same time.
Boys would still be able to sell using the order sheet in the traditional manner.
They can earn $10 in Scout Bucks to be used at the PTC store. There are lots of great prizes this year!
As soon as the boys receive their sell sheet, they may begin selling popcorn! The final details of the possible "Show & Deliver" will be a topic at the September parent meeting.

Next Parent Meeting:
Thursday, September 16, 6:30 PM, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
