Scarborough Pack 47 can only exist through the active participation
of its members. It takes a lot of time and effort to keep
the pack going. We depend on everyone's help. Below are
some pack committees in need of volunteers.
Ronald McDonald House: In previous years the dens have
taken turns each month collecting items to be donated to
the veterans at the Togas Hospital in Augusta. This year
we will be giving to the Ronald McDonald House.
Committee Responsibilities:

Notifying dens to collect
items from family and friends

Collecting the items and
delivering them to the Portland House
3.
Items should be brought to
pack meeting or parent meeting at the being the dens
assigned month
Time commitment: 2
- 3 hours
Coastal Cleanup: Usually this occurs at the end
of summer or early fall. Scouts and families pick up trash
and other debris along a Scarborough waterway for about
two hours. Pack 47 usually has two set times because of
soccer schedule.
Committee Responsibilities:

Filling out form a few weeks
in advance, stating where and when clean up will be
and sending it to:

Making arrangements for trash
in the dumpster behind the building in the industrial
park
3.
Having plenty of trash bags
on hand
4.
Stapling a piece of paper
to each card, so each group leader can record names
of each scout attending
5.
Giving tally cards to group
leaders at the beginning of event and explaining how
the are used
6.
Taping large envelope to
car so that those coming late will be able to grab pencil,
tally card, trash bag, and instructions
7.
Collecting cards at end of
event, tallying and sending them to the Environmental
Department
8.
Writing a thank you note
to public works
9.
Taking pictures and writing
a small piece for Scarborough Leader
Time commitment: 3
1/2 hours, including time spent at beach
Blue & Gold Banquet: Usually occurs in February, the
week of Boy Scouts' birthday.
Committee Responsibilities:

Selecting a location

Choosing menu for meal

Budgeting cost

Deciding on entertainment
6.
Helping layout night's events
with Cub Master
7.
Obtaining decorations
8.
Arriving early to help set
up

Bruce Gullifer at Community Services, if school is used
Time commitment: 5
- 8 hours, including banquet.
Pinewood Derby: Usually held the first weekend
in March. Each scout that signs up receives a car kit in
December. Scouts work with their parents over the next few
months to make their car. Winners go to the District Derby,
usually in April.
Committee Responsibilities:
1.
Purchasing car kits from
Pinetree Council and distributing them to Scouts through
den leaders or at December pack meeting, including Derby
rules and information sheet
2.
Soliciting and organizing
volunteers to help with setup the night before race
and the day of race
3.
Making sure church hall is
available on date needed
4.
Setting up derby track the
night before race and making sure it is in good working
order
5.
Purchasing trophies and having
then ready for derby day (Sportline Trophy)
6.
Being on hand during entire
derby for troubleshooting
7.
Making sure track is broken
down and church hall is cleaned after derby
8.
Filing winners' names with
Pinetree Council so they can go to district race
9.
Sending press release to
Scarborough Leader

Raingutter Regatta: Held in June. Basically the same
idea as the Pinewood Derby, except Scouts build boats.

den leaders or at a pack meeting, including Regatta
rules and information sheet

Soliciting and organizing
volunteers to help with setup the night before race
and the day of race

then ready for race day (Sportline Trophy)

event for troubleshooting

Hunniwell House Raking: Community service project that
the pack does every year for the town on Veterans day.
Committee Responsibilities:

Scarborough Community Services to schedule raking time

ask for donation of drink mix and cups

Reminding Scouts that they
need to bring their own rakes
4.
Calling Bruce Gullifer again
two weeks before raking day to remind him and asking
where leaf piles should be left (He usually leaves bags
for pack's use.)

the nursing home residents really look forward to hearing
the Scouts sing.
